A Kind and Caring Son, Friend and Person
July 4th, 1980 - Dec.24, 2015
The James Dale Greer golf tournament is to remember a former Kitchener resident who tragically lost his life Christmas 2015, and to raise money for a charity close to his heart, Big Brothers/Big Sisters of Waterloo Region.
Sadly while visiting his mom in Nova Scotia during the Christmas holidays three years ago, Dale went for a walk on the Mira Gut Beach, something he had always enjoyed doing. During his walk Dale was taking a picture of the Beach from the breakwater and slipped to his death.
Growing up with a single mom, as a young boy Dale admired the services of Big Brothers and Big Sisters. That left a lasting impact on his life and inspired him to become a mentor as an adult volunteering with the local Kitchener branch. Dale was a kind and caring son, friend and person. He lived by the motto of “Be the change you want to be in the world” which was written on his guitar case and if you speak to his friends he did just that.
He loved golf and giving back. In 2016 his family and friend hosted the Inaugural James Dale Greer Open at Rebel Creek Golf and Country Club. Raising $4,800.00 for a local Kitchener (Doon) family in need. Last year at Doon Golf Club with 126 participants the tournament raised $18,810.00 for our local Partner The Big Brothers Big Sisters of Waterloo Region! We are thrilled to extend this partnership for the 2018 James Dale Greer Memorial Open that will be hosted by Rockway Golf Club, which is another course that Dale played often as a teenager and through his 20’s
This annual scrable (best ball) tournament will carry on Dale's legacy for his Mom, Family and Friends. All proceeds earned by the tournament will go to Big Brothers Big Sisters of Waterloo!
